Pokello’s father was conspicuously absent when Elikem came to pay lobola last week. It has since emerged that Retired Colonel George Nare who farms and mines in Esigodini decided to stay away although he wished his daughter well.
This was after he had serious disagreements with Pokello’s mother who is now married to Local Government minister, Ignatius Chombo. In fact the retired colonel has not yet met Elikem in person.
The lobola ceremony was thus conducted at Chombo’s Mount Pleasant house and not at Pokello’s father’s base in Bulawayo as per tradition. Eyebrows were raised when none of the Nare clan was present. When a daughter gets married, regardless of the differences between mum and dad, both parents are always involved.
On the other hand Elikem brought with him his family, among them his mother, grandmother, brothers, cousins, sister and a few close friends.
He even brought his spiritual father Elder Maxwell. Pokello and Elikem are away enjoying married life. Speculation in Harare is that Pokello is now pregnant, hence the lobola payments. Source:Online
