HARARE – Gospel artiste Bethany Pasinawako-Ngolomi and her husband Lyton have ventured into farming in a bid to raise funds to assist six orphans who are part of the Xtreme Afrique choir that they lead.
The 25-member Xtreme Afrique launched its debut DVD titled Tomuziva Nenyasha Volume 1 at the Meikles Hotel a couple of months ago where Lyton’s mother Evelyn Ngolomi gave the couple a farm located in Mrewa.
“Currently, we are looking after six orphans and it is our dream to expand the figure. “Now since we have a farm we are no longer confined to the orphans alone but also vulnerable children on the streets,” said Bethen.
The Ndinzverei singer said the farm would enable them to uplift the lives of less fortunate children. “Matenga azozarukawo kwatiri zvino (blessings have fallen on us). The farm project is aimed at transforming other people’s lives,” she told the Daily News.
“We have pigs and cattle and we are about to start a poultry project. Food and money shall come from the farm,” she said. Bethen added that it is her duty as a Christian to share the little she has with others who are less fortunate.
“I believe in philanthropy; we are what we are not because we deserve it but it is just through God’s mercy on us. If one is blessed, he or she should share the blessing,” she said.
Meanwhile Bethen, who is set to launch her fourth album at the end of this month, told the Daily News that Xtreme Afrique’s Tomuziva Nenyasha DVD Volume 1 had been well-received by the market.
“We have been pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming response the DVD is receiving mindful of the fact that it is our pioneer project. “Since the launch of the project, several doors of opportunity continue to open up,” she said.
Xtreme Afrique includes former members of Alick Macheso’s Orchestra Mberikwazvo, drummer Obert Gomba and Congolese chanter Jonasi Kasamba.
The DVD album has six videos namely Chisikwa, Nditenderei, Jesu ndinouya, Ngarikudzwe, Ndiringe and Yebo Siyavuma. Daily News
