Do you know what happens to your body when you drink Coke? Read this before you take your next sip!

Pharmacist Blogger Niraj Naik breaks down the effects coke has on the human body. Naik says he created it in response to clients who complained they were still gaining weight despite following a low-fat diet.

The beverage wreaks havoc on the body, according to the graphic, releasing an excess of dopamine and leaving the individual dehydrated, sluggish, irritable and craving more.

The graphic explained:
In the first 10 minutes of drinking a 330ml can of regular coke, the equivalent of 10 teaspoons of sugar hits your system. Normally this amount of sugar would make a person vomit but the phosphoric acid in the coke cuts the sweet flavour allowing you to keep everything down.

By the time you reach 20 minutes your blood sugar level spikes resulting in an insulin burst which tells your liver to start turning any sugar it can get into fat.

After 40 minutes caffeine has absorbed into your body causing your pupils to dilate and increasing your blood pressure. Your liver responds by dumping more sugar into your bloodstream. At this point the receptors in your brain are blocked which prevents you from being drowsy.

At the 45 minute mark your body reacts physically the same way it would have if you were on heroin. Dopamine production is increased, stimulating the pleasure centers of your brain.

After an hour the phosphoric acid gives you a metabolism boost by binding the calcium, magnesium and zinc in your lower intestine which by the way is meant to be headed to your bones and teeth. Depriving your bones of these valuable vitamins, the caffeine’s diuretic properties kick in and you urinate all the bonded vitamins as well as sodium, electrolytes and water.

And to top it all off you then experience a sugar crash which leaves you irritable and tired.

All this happens after drinking one can of Coke. How many cans do you drink a day?

I have come up with a few practical ways you can use Coke as a domestic cleaner:

  • Remove grease stains and blood from clothing and fabric.
  • Remove rust
  • Clean oil stains from a garage floor and grout from tiles
  • The acid kills slugs and snails
  • Clean burnt pans and descale the kettle
  • Clean car battery terminals by pouring a small amount of Coke over each one.
  • Make money shine
  • Remove gum from hair
  • Remove stains from vitreous china
  • You can remove (or fade) dye from hair by pouring diet Coke over it.
  • Remove marker stains from carpet.
  • Clean your toilet
  • Strip paint off metal furniture
