Best male Artist in Africa - Davido |
The long wait is over as Nigerian pop star Davido is expected to perform live in Harare this August ending months of speculation.
The “Aye” hitmaker’s debut concert comes a month after another hugely successful gig by a fellow countryman Burna Boy held at the newly opened Pablo’z VIP.
He is scheduled to perform on August 29 with a welcome party a day before. Davido will perform at Belgravia Sports Club alongside some of Zimbabwe’s finest performing artistes who include Sulumani Chimbetu and Jah Prayzah among others.
In an interview, show organisers Partson Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions said they have already started planning for the show.
“I am happy that we are at an advanced stage on the preparations for the show. We will reveal some of the artistes who will share the stage with Davido. “We want people to vote for who they want to see on stage on the day with Davido,” he said.
Chimbodza said tickets will be priced between $10 and $20. He said the visit by Davido will put Zimbabwe on the map and local artistes will have a chance to learn from the multi-talented award-winning singer.
Meanwhile, the recent MTV Africa Music Award winner posted a video on social media confirming his performance. “I will be in Zimbabwe on August 29, performing at Belgravia Sports Club,” he said.
Previously, Davido made it no secret that his mission to conquer the world would not be complete without staging a show in Zimbabwe.
Initially, the multi-award- winning artiste was scheduled to perform in Harare in May but the show failed to take off due to a number of issues including non-payment of appearance fees.
However, that did not dampen his spirits to visit one of the serene places in Africa like Harare, which at one point was dubbed “the concert country” by Jamaican dancehall star Sean Paul.
Of course, that would not be without a reason since renowned artistes, among them the late legendary Bob Marley, Bruce Springsteen, Tracy Chapman, Akon and Beenie Man to mention a few, have had great outings in Harare.
Davido is raring to go and a bumper crowd is expected at Belgravia Sports Club for what appears to be a big concert so far this year. Besides the likes of Don Jazzy, Pato Ranking, Dr Sid, who are doing wonders in Nigeria, Davido is currently at the top of his game after he won the Best Male Artiste at the MAMAs held in KwaZulu-Natal at the weekend.
The diminutive singer boasts several hits up his sleeves including “Dami Duro”, “Skelewu”, “All Of You” and “Tchelete” featuring South Africa’s Mafikizolo. Herald
