Oscar Pistorius and late girlfriend Reeva before he fatally shot her in his house |
Oscar Pistorius will not be released from prison on Friday in a shock decision from South Africa's Department of Justice. The disgraced paralympian is serving a five-year prison sentence for killing his former girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.
He was due to be released just ten months into that term but the justice department today announced the decision to transfer him to house arrest was made 'prematurely'.
The decision comes on what would have been the tragic model's 32nd birthday. Her family marked the occasion by releasing a poignant photo of their beloved daughter as a 14-year-old girl. In tribute to the tragic model, Reeva's parents Barry and June today visited the site where they scattered her ashes.
The lawyer representing the couple told MailOnline that June is 'not happy' about Pistorius's delayed release because her daughter is already gone, but the fact it happened on her birthday could mean 'justice for Reeva after all'.
Meanwhile the Pristorius family reacted to the delay by saying they would be considering their options.
In a statement the family added: ‘We accept the decision by the Minister and are considering our options.' Dailymail.com
