Has Shiga Shiga taken his stage antics too far by imitating prophets on stage?

PETER Moyo’s Utakataka Express chanter Shiga Shiga-real name Gift Katulika-continues with the artistic verve that usually leaves revellers in stitches.

The Congolese born Chanter, who is now being referred as Prophet Shiga Shiga after his chants in the song Mavanga, spoke in ‘tongues’ during the band performance at City Sports Bar over the weekend.

Speaking in tongues is one of the most talked about phenomena in Christianity, particularly Pentecostalism, but Shiga does it for fun and entertainment, though critics cite an element of blasphemy.

In the middle of the song, Shiga introduced an unfamiliar language imitating prophets much to the delight of the fans.

Shiga started his ‘prophetic’ claims last year which saw him bringing the Bible on the stage at the same time wearing a garment that have religious connotations.

The chanter claims he ‘prophesises’ and brings joy among merry-makers as he sings,”ini ndinonzi prophet Shiga Shiga stress ngaidzokere kumashure joy ngaiende mberi.”

It is during that session, which the chanter sings the popular dance ‘Bata Pasi’ that has since taken showbiz by storm.Shiga brought a different flair to sungura music when he joined the late Tongai Moyo while his fellow countryman Jonasi Kasamba was with Aleck Macheso.

He is also playing a pivotal role in keeping Peter’s ship afloat with his creativity that attracts fans to their shows.

“We just do this to entertain our fans. Now people are calling me prophet Shiga and I have to do what prophets do.

“Sometimes I bring the bible on the stage and bring fun to our fans;we strive to be creative so that our shows are always unique.

“They should know that when they come to watch Utakataka, they feel the value for their money and those who are yet to attend Peter’s show should give it a try,” he said.
