DESTINY for Afrika Network (DANet) leader and strong Zanu PF sympathiser Obadiah Musindo has been issued with summons for civil imprisonment for a debt amounting to over $10 000 that he allegedly owes Bulawayo-based Strides Models pageant run by Sipho Mazibuko.
According to Mazibuko, the debt arose after the controversial cleric asked her agency to assist with scouting for beautiful models that were going to take part on the 2013 Miss Carnival pageant on behalf of Musindo’s company.
According to the summons case number HC 1903 from the Bulawayo High Court, Musindo is ordered to pay the plaintiff, Mazibuko, a sum of $10 135 with interest of five percent rate per annum from August 2013 to the date of payment.
“You are required to pay this sum by virtue of a judgment obtained against you in the High Court at Bulawayo on February 11, 2014, under which you were ordered to pay the costs of that case,” reads part of the summons.
Mazibuko, who is represented by her lawyers from Job Sibanda and Associates Legal Practitioners, said what made this relevant now was that she finally managed to serve the cleric with the summons after having struggled to locate him for the past two-and-a-half years.
“The job for my agency was to scout for models, designers as well as to get the girls to Harare for the national auditions. I took 13 girls to Harare but only two were successful,” Mazibuko said.
“But on those 11 models I had already spent a lot intensive crush grooming from my Agency and that of Ricky Nathanson’s Ricochet Modelling Agency. We also took care of all other expenses like food and transport and dressing. The agreement was such that all our expenses would be paid back by Musindo.”
Mazibuko, who made name during her days as director of the now defunct Miss Rural pageant, said unfortunately the two girls failed to win at the finals of the Miss Carnival.
An attempt to recover her money from Musindo yielded nothing as she alleges that she was told to zip up as she could do nothing to him since he was more powerful.
She said several efforts— including taking the mater to Tourism minister Walter Mzembi and Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive officer Karikoga Kaseka yielded nothing as Musindo remained elusive.
As if that was not enough, Mazibuko said she reported the matter to Hillside and Harare Central police stations but he was not apprehended.
This, she said forced her to engage private investigators simply to serve him with summons. “I am glad that after a hard struggle, my investigators located him this week and served him and I am not going to give up until justice prevails,” Mazibuko said.
Efforts to get comment from Musindo were fruitless by the time of going to print last night.
