Blatter bows down to world pressure - resigns

Sepp Blatter stunned the football world with his shock resignation as FIFA president on Tuesday, just four days after being re-elected for a fifth term.

It follows a week from hell for FIFA after a series of corruption scandals made Blatter's position untenable.

The unrelenting pressure from all quarters — with the British media leading the way — is said to have finally convinced him what the rest of football knew: that he had to go.
