Breaking: Sikhanyiso Ndlovu dies

FORMER Information Minister and Zanu PF politburo member Sikhanyiso Ndlovu has died. He was 78. Ndlovu died at Mater Dei Hospital early this morning where he had been admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) more than a week ago after suffering a stroke.

Prior to the stroke, Ndlovu had suffered an asthma attack. In a brief telephone interview, his brother Simangaliso confirmed the death. “I can only comment in the evening when I get to Bulawayo. I am driving from Victoria Falls,” he said.

A veteran of the liberation struggle Ndlovu was a senior member of former Vice-President Joshua Nkomo’s Zapu before the 1987 Unity Accord and has since independence held several party and ministerial positions.

In April 1995 Ndlovu was appointed the Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education until April 2000.He was appointed Minister of Information and Publicity in 2007. In April 2014 he lost the Zanu PF central committee in Bulawayo.
