Hope Masike ventures into Music Promotion

Hope Masike
Afro jazz diva and mbira fusion player Hope Masike has broadened her musical horizons by venturing into music promotion by hosting the country’s top ladies of jazz in a concert at Reps Theatre on Saturday.

Masike's debut show kicks off this coming Saturday with an all-female star studded line up that includes Dudu Manhenga-Muparutsa, Prudence Katomene- Mbofana and Rute Mbangwa.

Masike, who is currently doing well with her two new musical videos Huyai Tinamate and Matatya said she has seen it fit to move on with her career as a music promoter working with fellow female artists.

"We are psyched to be able to have these three wonderful musicians sharing the stage. Being the debut concert, we thought it should bring some of the most senior and most celebrated women musicians of Zimbabwe,"  said Masike.

One of the best afro jazz musicians Rute Mbangwa said Masike's initiative is meant to give hope and a more robust platform for female artists who want to take their musical career seriously in Zimbabwe.

"The concert comprises old, loved jazz standards, classic Zimbabwe township jazz and original compositions from the musicians. With varied sets from solos, duets to full bands, the concert promises to offer the best there is in jazz in Zimbabwe," Mbangwa said.

Dubbed "Sway", the concert is a local initiative aiming to put more effort into the promotion of women in music in Zimbabwe.

Sway marks the beginning of a series of concerts with different themes, but centred around women in art and culture. ZBC News
