Zimra official arrested…. demanded $100k bribe

Zimra official Licious Charakupa being led away by police

HARARE – A Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) official was yesterday arrested by police details at his offices on allegations of receiving a US$100 000 bribe from a businessman.

Licious Charakupa, a supervisor (Enforcement Region One), is believed to be linked to a syndicate who prejudice business persons by giving them wrong tariffs before receiving bribes.

H-Metro lenses quickly caught up with him as he left the building after reports about his arrest circulated at Kurima House where ZIMRA offices are located.

 He was seen handcuffed as he was led to Harare Central Police Station by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Serious Frauds Department officers along 3rd Street.

Charakupa could be seen operating his mobile while handcuffed presumably alerting his gang about his ordeal. National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba could not confirm the arrest saying the report is still to reach her office.

“We are still to receive that report and I can not confirm the arrest,” said Charamba.

However, police are on record saying they will not hesitate to bring to book all who engage in criminal activities. Police are operating under the theme, ZRP , creating a conducive environment for economic growth and empowerment. H Metro
