David Moyes has officially been sacked by Real Sociedad, and Manchester United fans have been reacting to the news with a strange sense of glee on Twitter.

Moyes has been axed following a disappointing start to the 2015-16 campaign - La Real currently sit 16th in the Spanish league table with nine points from their opening 11 matches - along with his assistant, Billy McKinlay.

The Scottish coach, who worked wonders with Everton before agreeing to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford in the summer of 2013 - lasted just 364 days at Anoeta. Four defeats in his final five matches - including a 2-0 loss to strugglers Las Palmas last Friday - prompted Real Sociedad to terminate his contract eight months before it was due to expire.

Many United fans have little respect for Moyes as a result of the catastrophic 2013-14 campaign, when the Red Devils finished the season in seventh place - they won the title under Ferguson at the end of the previous campaign - and produced a host of uninspiring team performances along the way.

Moyes was also criticised by supporters for his lack of charisma in press conferences and televised interviews, hence why the appointment of the larger-than-life Louis van Gaal was such a breath of fresh air for the Old Trafford faithful. Givemesport.com
