White Caddy Says He Felt Like a ‘Slave’ Working for Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods's career might be sputtering now, but there's no doubting his place as one of golf's all-time greats — if not the greatest.

A constant by Woods's side when he won 13 of 14 Major tournaments on the PGA Tour from 1999 to 2011 was caddy Steve Williams. But despite the highs that Woods enjoyed during that time, Williams says working for the golf great was pure hell.

In a new book, Out of the Rough, Williams, who's white, says working for Woods was like being the golfer's "slave."

"One thing that really pissed me off was how he would flippantly toss a club in the general direction of the bag, expecting me to go over and pick it up," Williams says in the book, as an obtained excerpt from Deadspin reports. "I felt uneasy about bending down to pick up his discarded club — it was like I was his slave."

Oh, but Williams wasn't done yet.

"The other thing that disgusted me was his habit of spitting at the hole if he missed a putt," he continues. "Tiger listened to what I had to say, the air was cleared and we got on with it — his goal was to be the best player in history and my goal was to keep working as best I could to help make that happen."

The last time we checked, part of a caddy's job description was to lug around his golfer's equipment, so we wonder if there's something deeper here that's irking Williams.
