Jah Prayzah rules the roost at Star FM awards

Contemporary musician Jah Prayzah proved why he is rated as “man of the moment” when he walked away with two gongs at the Star FM People’s Choice Awards held over the weekend at the Harare International Conference Centre.

Jah Prayzah was accorded the Most Influential Singer Under 40 and the Best Artiste of the Year awards while Suluman Chimbetu’s song “Nyuchi” scooped the Best Song of the Year accolade. Clad in his army uniform, the dreadlocked singer jumped onto the stage and showcased his dance moves before receiving his awards.

The small crowd that graced the event welcomed him as they sang along to his song “Tiise Maoko”. The jovial Jah Prayzah thanked his fans for their support.

“Words cannot fully express how I’m feeling right now. What I want to do is just to thank you for the support that you give me. Without you I wouldn’t have received these awards, so I say they also belong to you,” he said.

After receiving his awards the man gave the fans a special treat as he led in dancing and singing along to most of his popular songs. Fans danced to his songs such as “Chinamira”, “Tiise Maoko” and “Eriza” among others.

Entertainment was more than enough as fans also had the chance to dance, sing and listen to the melodious sounds from South African songstress Zahara, who showed them that she is the best in what she does.

Fans could not help it but commend the outstanding performances of the artistes.

“I really enjoyed myself. The artistes gave us a memorable weekend and they have proved that they are the best in the industry. To those who won I say they really deserved those awards,” said a fan identified as Shepherd.

“At least they showed no bias because judging from the winners and their works, you can see that the judges did well.

“Oskid won the Best Producer Award and it was no surprise because that man’s beats are good, I tell you,” said Marshal from Mbare.

Farai Mashamba from Kuwadzana added that she was happy to come to the show as she missed Zahara’s show the last time she came to perform.

Popular songs like “Loliwe”,” Impilo”, “Lengoma”, “Phendula” and “Liza Lisidinga Lakho” saw fans dancing the night away andt she left the stage wthe fans stil wanted more.

.Zahara said she was happy to be given the opportunity to perform at the awards ceremony.

“I think it’s high time I buy a house and stay here in Zimbabwe because you people are wonderful, I thank you for calling me again, I never thought I would get this chance as I had just performed some months ago” she said while performing

Among the local performers were Fungisai, Mathias Mhere and Itai Mutinhiri who also gave the fans a moment to remember at the awards ceremony.

The other award winners included Killer T, who scooped the Best Album of the Year, Nyaradzo Mashayamombe who took the Humanitarian Award while Wicknell Chivayo was crowned Businessman of the Year.

“I’m out of words for winning this award. I never expected it, but I just want to thank you.

“Remember this year is a year of lessons and it’s now time for corrections,” said Oskid. The Herald
