Morgan Heritage cancels Zimbabwe gig

Morgan Heritage
Jamaican reggae outfit, Morgan Heritage’s first concert in Zimbabwe has been cancelled, ostensibly because of a small venue.

Promoters now say the City Sports Centre is too small and the show slated for New Year’s Eve had to be cancelled. The band’s representative, Memmalatel “Mojo” Morgan, was in the country last month and had penned a deal with local promoter, Biggie Chinoperekwei of Divine Assignments, for the potentially explosive concert.

Chinoperekwei said they had received overwhelming response from the fans and felt for security reasons, there was need to move the concert to a better and bigger venue.

“When we opted for City Sports Centre, we thought it was going to be a suitable venue for Morgan Heritage’s debut concert in Zimbabwe, but we had since discovered that the venue will be too small, hence, we postponed the concert to a date yet to be advised,” he said.

“From our research, we have also learnt that Morgan Heritage have never performed in-doors, which is something we had overlooked and as a result will be hosting the concert at a better and bigger open venue for the security of our fans.”

Chinoperekwei, however, said they are still committed to bringing the 16-member outfit at a date and venue to be advised.
