Under fire Louis Van Gaal
Louis van Gaal is on the brink of losing his job after it emerged that Ed Woodward has canvassed senior players about the Manchester United manager’s methods.

Woodward, who is the club’s executive vice-chairman, has spoken to individuals following a dip in form that has left United five points off a Champions League place.

United’s disastrous 1-0 defeat against Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday has increased the pressure on the Dutch coach following a wretched run of form

Woodward is aware that the players have stopped responding to Van Gaal’s methods and is considering placing Ryan Giggs in charge until the end of the season.

Giggs is still United’s likely first choice despite noises emanating from the Jose Mourinho camp over the weekend confirming their man remains desperate for the job.

Van Gaal has lost the support of the majority of the players in the dressing room and the increasingly desperate situation is forcing United’s hand.

Giggs saw out the remaining four games when David Moyes was fired two years ago, but he is reluctant to take the job again on an interim basis.

The former United winger, who is currently Van Gaal’s coach, wants the full backing of the board to transform the team’s fortunes.

That means being handed sole control of the team on a permanent basis and a transfer kitty to match his ambitions of re-establishing United as a major force again.

United were booed off the pitch by their own fans again at half-time and full-time following the defeat against Ronald Koeman’s team.

Van Gaal accepts that his job is under threat after a disastrous run of form, but he is still hoping to be in charge for Friday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie at Derby County. Dailymail.
