Chinese man nabbed for trying to smuggle 9000 memory cards strapped on his body

A man traveling from Hong Kong was caught at Shenzhen customs attempting to smuggle over 9,000 mobile phone memory cards on Friday.

The memory cards, which were worth nearly 100,000 yuan (15,270 US dollars), were taped to his body.

According to a customs official, the man had also attempted to bribe the officials on duty, offering 50,000 yuan in exchange for letting him through.

Earlier on Friday, officials had also caught an elderly woman who was trying to smuggle over 10,000 phone memory cards.

She had tied the cards to her waist and legs, and was pulled aside for a check after it was noticed that she had difficulty in moving around.

This is not the first time that people have been caught smuggling electronic goods from Hong Kong, where these products are cheaper, into the Chinese mainland by taping them to their bodies.

In fact, in the past, people have even been caught with iPhones, sometimes over 100 devices, strapped to their bodies.
