Family of God (FOG) founder and current leader Apostle Andrew Wutawunashe has left most of his followers in shock after he publicly announced plans to desert his wife, Dr R. F Wutawunashe for another woman.

Church members who spoke to RadioVOP felt the church could now be headed for a split due to their leader’s controversial actions.

“The devil is really at work I believe. Wutawunashe had become an opinion leader in the religious fraternity but this has really brought the church to shame,” said one Jayne Muromo.

“I do not see a bright future on the church staying united as many pastors went on to boycott a meeting in disappointment.”

The meeting was an attempt by the under fire clergyman to update pastors on the whole saga. Wutaunashe did not help any matters either when he openly told disgruntled pastors they were free to leave if they felt hard done by his decision to dump his wife for another one.

He delivered the blunt message after the boycott through the church’s spokesperson, Bishop Nehemiah Chingombe.

“The Family of God wishes to acknowledge that it has received an advisement from the founder and leader Apostle Andrew Wutawunashe in a communique’ to the internal leadership regarding his lengthy separation and the step he is contemplating…” read the statement.

“It needs to be underlined that Apostle Wutawunashe has given all the leaders and followers an opportunity to follow their conscience in declining on continuing in the Family of God under his leadership.”

In a telephone interview, Chingombe denied reports that Wutawunashe was caught red handed with a “small house” but was firm in saying the latter was convinced it was time to end a rocky marriage he had struggled to keep stable for the past 10 years.

“Those are false reports,” he said, “Apostle Wutawunashe was never caught with a small house. He just informed the church that he is willing to end his marriage to get rid of marital problems he has been facing for the past ten years and possibly move on.”

Added a church member, Charity Nyandoro in sympathy, “This is the time when this family needs us the church the most we must pray for reconciliation because our lives and our children’s future is at stake here.

“This is not a game; the devil has attacked us and we cannot afford to settle our scores like this. We wrestle not against flesh and blood but we cancel the spirit of divorce in Jesus.

“So much ministry has been done for us and we are not about to back off let’s fight till this marriage is restored by faith. God can turn around our situation.”

It is reported the Gweru and Bulawayo leadership were ready to leave the church as the majority failed to come to terms with the shame brought to the church by their leader.

“There is a lot going on in Gweru and Bulawayo as leadership there has not welcomed Wutawunashe’s action to divorce and marry sooner rather than later as he expressed in his letter to the church.

“His message has made them to strongly believe that in his 10 years of battle in the marriage Wutawunashe had already been in an affair with a secret lover thereby going against the church doctrine that does not support adultery and fornication,” said another church member.

Amid the wrangle that has currently engulfed the church, Wutawunashe wrote in his letter to members that he is still willing to minister to them.

“It is now imperative that you know that my marriage is coming to an official end after over 10 years of separation but without recrimination…I humbly desire to continue ministering to you all that God gives me for you,” he said.

“I also want you to know that as soon as it is legally permissible, I am persuaded that I should end the season of those past 10 years or more by getting married sooner or later,” he added.
