Chiedza Chevatendi front man Tapiwa Chibaya dies

CHIEDZA Chevatendi front-man Tapiwa Chibaya passed on Monday at Kutama Hospital after a long illness.illness. Chibaya family spokesperson Silent Chibaya confirmed the death as a loss to the family and nation. ”We have been robbed of a preacher,comforter and counselor in our family and the nation at large,”said Silent.

“He was the light to the family and we ended up giving him a nickname ‘Ziyedza Ravatendi’because of great things he did for us.

“He left unrecorded songs he penned down and also akasiya arima chibage chakawanda nenyimo asi tinotenda kuti adaidzwa nguva yake yakwana tinozvigamuchira.

“Baba Oliver Mtukudzi was here by the time he passed on and Vabati VaJehovah members have been visiting him at home and hospital apart from his church members and friends,”said Silent.

Vabati VaJehovah leader Richard Magaya described the singer as one of the angels without wings on earth.

“It is a blow to us and the nation,his voice was more like an angel without wings living on earth and we will greatly miss his spiritual gift filled with worshiping songs,”said Richard.

“I visited Tapiwa on the 15th of December after hearing that he was not feeling well and from that day I took my time with him and today (yesterday) his uncle informed me about his death when I was about to visit him at Kutama Hospital,”said Richard.

Chibaya last performed with his group Chiedza Chevatendi at Pakare Paye in Norton when Oliver Mutukudzi was celebrating 40 years in music.

He has survived by his wife and five children-three boys and two girls.He will be buried at Madzima Village,in Zvimba.
