Kariba Mayor in court after bashing wife

Tracy Ndoro
Kariba Mayoress Tracy Ndoro has dragged her husband to court after being bashed for allegedly having an affair with a workmate.

Ndoro, who is a councillor on an MDC-T ticket, reported the matter to Kariba police after being attacked by her husband, Takesure Kakwere, who accused her of having an affair with one Anesu Manyepa, who is employed by Kariba Municipality.

Kakwere has since appeared before Kariba magistrate Mr Felix Chauromwe facing domestic violence charges.

He pleaded guilty and was accordingly convicted of contravening sections of the Domestic Violence Act. Mr Chauromwe sentenced Kakwere to a $300 fine, failure of which he would spend three months in prison.

Efforts to withdraw the charges by the mayoress were futile after the withdrawal affidavit she tendered was turned down.

Kakwere is currently held at Kariba prison after failing to raise the $300 fine. Prosecuting, Mr Philip Urayayi alleged that on April 3, at stand number 86, Lusaka in Mahombekombe township, Kakwere twisted Ndoro’s hand before pulling her braids and later pushing her against the wall.

She did not, however, sustain visible injuries. In passing sentence, magistrate Mr Chauromwe considered that Kakwere was a public figure who was facing serious charges.

He said there was need to protect women and send a clear message that the law will not tolerate any form of abuse.

In mitigation, the court considered that Kakwere was a first offender who did not waste the court’s time.
