Pepper eating Contest in China

A pepper-eating contest was held in Lijiang, a tourist hotspot in southwest China’s Yunnan Province. Competitors were apparently not afraid to numb their tongues and set their palates on fire as they ate their way through the fierce preliminary contest, all the way to the final round.

Each contestant had two minutes to eat as many chillies as they can while sitting in giant urns filled with peppers. The championship was won by a man named Suo who stomached 47 pieces.

Suo seems to have had an advantage over his rivals, as he came from Chengdu, the city known as“the hometown of spicy food.”
