Is Sulu getting Jealous of Jah Prayzah’s massive success?

Sulu and Jah Prayzah
DENDERA exponent Sulumani Chimbetu’s dominance as one of the biggest crowd pullers has been been broken by contemporary musician Jah Prayzah — who is currently riding the crest of a wave — forcing the former to act.

NewsDay is reliably informed that Sulu is set to release an album in October, albeit hurriedly, in a bid to counter the stiff competition.

The yet-to-be titled album is currently under production and follows hot on the heels of Sulu’s last offering, Gunship, which appears to have been outpaced by Jah Prayzah’s latest offering, Jerusarema.

During a live show at Londoners’, two weeks ago, Sulu announced that he was back in the studio working on a new album.

Industry watchers, however, felt he was rushing the project to try and reclaim his dominance in view of the waves Jah Prayzah was causing in the market.

Sulu’s publicist Joe ‘Local’ Nyamungoma, however, scoffed at the speculation saying they were not worried about competition, but whatever they did was to satisfy their fans’ demands.

“We are not in competition with anyone. We simply respond to our fans’ demands,” he said.

It is also understood that there was a fall-out between the two musicians although both camps dismissed the reports, which followed a verse dropped by Sulu during the Londoners’ show to the effect that an unnamed fellow artist was getting big headed as a result of new-found fame and fortune.

“Mupfanha wangu kana wabata mari haikona kukura musoro,” (My younger brother don’t get big-headed because you have amassed money), went the verse.

The two artistes have had a turbulent relationship. At one time, they quarrelled over percentage shares of gate takings at their joint live shows as each considered themselves to have a bigger profile than the other.

As if to confirm their head–to–head competition in the race for dominance on the local music scene, both have had their images extensively used in different local companies’ advertisements, with some organisations appointing them their brand ambassadors.
