HARARE – Dancehall sensation, Winky D, is not limiting himself to this genre and is exploring other avenues, if his latest singles collection is anything to go by.
The collection has five singles, namely; Chiramu, I cry, Independent Lady, Machikichori and Mudhara Vauya, in which the artiste showed his versatility with a blend of dancehall and contemporary music.
His camp told H metro that the singer is not diverting from his usual dancehall but he is maintaining and breaking into new horizons.
“I feel this is a balanced project. We are not moving away from what people know him for but breaking into new horizons.
This is not a typical dancehall collection but blended with contemporary music, good music. I would say Machikichori is purely dancehall on the Zim Talent Hunt Riddim,” Jonathan Banda, Winky D’s manager said.
“We are still maintaining and taking further into other dimensions,” he added. Banda added that the singles collection is a sign that there are a lot of projects which can be released at any point.
He also emphasised on the issue of quality before release. “I work with a versatile artiste that at times it will be difficult to contain the works and we end up releasing it.
“We have a lot of projects in the studio which can be released at any time. Even after this singles collection, if there is need for an album, it can come as long as it makes commercial sense,” said Banda.
Chiramu and I Cry already have a video medley which has been endorsed by the musicians’ followers.
The song Independent Lady features budding songstress Chenai Chaendera and was produced by Russo. H Metro
