Mr Ugly |
THIRTEEN people have so far registered for participation in this year’s edition of Mr Ugly pageant set for October 24 in Harare.
The popular contest, which had traditionally been held at the City Sports Centre in the past, has been moved to the Private Lounge.
The contest was not held last year due to lack of sponsors, but pageant founder David Machowa – popularly known as Apama – yesterday told NewsDay that 13 people have registered to participate in the contest which he described as the crowning of “the most brave men”.
“Preparations are still on, but now we are happy that we have secured the venue and have finally set the date. On October 24, the Private Lounge is the place to be for history will be made again,” he said.
Machowa said although reigning Mr Ugly, William Masvinu will take part, judging by the looks of the other contestants, it was going to be a tough contest.
He said his team was now working on securing top artists to perform at the event.
Masvinu, from Epworth is the reigning 2013 Mr Ugly after retaining the title which he had won the previous year. Masvinu said he will contest and said that he will retain the title for a third consecutive time.
Mr Ugly contest has become a popular event in the country, despite lack of sponsorship.
Apama started the contest in 2011. The first winner was Brian Mateyazondo who won $50 as prize money. In 2012 it was won by Masvinu who walked away with $100. Newsday
