Jonasi Kasamba rejoins Alick Macheso

Jonasi Kasamba
The all conquering Orchestra Mberikwazvo outfit continues to brew shocker after shocker as they continue steering the ship towards the release of the much awaited album, Tsoka Dzerwendo.

While some music fans are still to regurgitate the recent readmission of the immensely gifted drummer Obert Gomba into the band, celebrated chanter Jonas “Joe” Kasamba has once again retraced his steps to Orchestra Mberikwazvo.

Jonas’s first ever show after his return will  be at Ice and Fire, Pamuzinda ON Friday where Macheso shares the stage with the trailblazing Lady Storm of Eriza fame. Of this latest move, Alick Macheso’s Publicist Tich Makamahadze said Orchestra Mberikwazvo is a big institution and brand and Jonas’s coming back was inevitable.

“What we want Orchestra Mberikwazvo and music fans at large to know is that we are a big brand and we are not informed by the past in how we go about our business.  Jonas was once a member of the band and though he may not have been part of our plans he is now. Just like Obert, he is going to work with the rest of the team as we take the brand forward.

Mudhara Macheso himself gave this move the blessings and it’s got to be an exciting.  We are leaving the past in the past and facing the future with confidence, chakabvira gore rino..” Makahamadze said.

Macheso who is the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society’s Humanitarian Ambassador has been known for his forgiving heart and was reportedly helping Joe with food and other necessities even before his readmission into the band.

The recent move is reportedly more out of a desire to strengthen structures at the same time giving the gifted chanter a life line. Macheso’s Band Manager and uncle Lucky Macheso said they will keep reinventing themselves according to obtaining trends in the industry.

“Dynamism is the name of the game and we will continue doing our best to add value and flavour to the brand Mberikwazvo. Some may have different theories to this but we are doing it for our fans and for Joe.

It would be folly to just give help to Joe when we know that we could actually do more by utilising his talents at teh same time allowing him  to do what he loves best which is working with Mberikwazvo. Mberikwazvo musha mukuru mudhara, haushaye vana vanombopoya asi vese vanodzoka vachiwana musha uchingokika. It’s business as usual and with the come of the new album masamba atochinja,” Macheso said.

Jonas Kasamba could not hide his elation at his readmission into the outfit which gave him fame and whatever fortune he amassed during the time he was with the band. “Ndadzoka kumusha mudhara. Takutoita kuti zvinhu zviende mberi saka maboss ngaauye paMuzinda ipapo this Friday aone tichiita basa live and direct.

Saturday we are at Club 007 Hide Out in Glendale tobva tazvivharisa nefamily show on Sunday at Extra Mile. Kune chisionekwi mudhara humhandara hwaamai,” said Joe with a chuckle. On whether other former “rebels” Noel Nyazanda and Franco Slomo who now fronts Extra Kwazvose, Macheso said they will leave it to fate.

“Time defines everything and for now we will let things be. What Zimbabwe must know is that we are a big institution and we can accommodate three different line ups at any given time.

Meanwhile they must enjoy the moment and count down to Tsoka Dzerwendo. Chikwata chakavagadzirira zviripo. This weekend its going to be off the hook and asipo haapo”.
