One on One with Alick Macheso as he talks about each track on his new album

Alick Macheso
WHILE there is belief that Zim Dancehall is the most popular genre in the country, Alick Macheso’s latest album has shown that sungura music is where the money is.Macheso’s 10th album,Tsoka Dzarwendo (Ayayaa), sold over 100000 copies yesterday following its unveiling and Star FM where popular presenter,Phathisani Sibanda hosted the artiste in the morning.

Fans scrambled for the copies that were on sale at the Star FM studios with some buying more than one in a massive boost for Macheso’s war against piracy.

The CD is pegged at $1,which the piracy would charge for their counterfeit products which have a short shelf life. And by having volunteers push the product on the streets,Macheso virtually monopolised proceedings on the first day.

However, there was an outcry by his fans from outside Harare, who were anxious to lay their hands on the CD but could not find it.Speaking to H-metro last night,Orchestra Mberikwazvo manager,Lucky Macheso said they were under pressure to produce at least 100000 more copies today.

“We don’t have an exact number at the moment but from the collation mark and we are failing to meet demand. We are busy to try and avail as many as 100000 copies tomorrow because we have been receiving numerous calls from our sales teams across the country saying they are running out of stock.,”he said.

Macheso was overwhelmed by the support his fans who had waited for over three years for the album. The musician spent the better part of yesterday on the ground, monitoring progress on the street sales and was thrilled with what he saw.

“I was on the ground during the afternoon and the fans were willing to buy more that one CD.Someone told me that he would stand by me till the end and buying my music and original CDs is one such way of showing that support.

“This is encouraging to all musicians because it shows there is future in music if we get our acts together and I am going to embark on a countrywide tour to promote this album,”said Macheso last night.

ALICK Macheo released his 10th album titled Tsoka Dzerwendo,a development the musician said came as a huge relief from him.The CD was first played on Star FM with fans, some through social media describing it as a triumph by the sungura virtuoso. The album will officially be launched at the giant HICC this Thursday. H-Metro hooked up with Baba Sharo, for him to explain each of the six tracks on the album.

BABA

This is a reality,it is happening in our day-to-day lives.Tirikuona vana varikutambura asi vabereki vachirarama upenyu hwakanaka. A lot of men are dumping their families while the mother is pregnant. The mother carries the burden right from the buginning and it is that motherly love that I am trying to express and applaud in this song.Mothers have love that has no boundaries.A mother does not allow the ill-treatment from the father of the children affect this love. Our mothers do everything, having sleepless nights to make sure that we live a better life while the father is enjoying,Vachidya nyika rutivi.

As an artiste I have seen a lot and talked to a number of people raising these issues. As an ambassador pf Red Cross I have, during our tour, seen a number of mothers struggling for the welfare of their children while their fathers are enjoying. I have seen children travelling long distances barefoot, vachipinda muchimbuzi netsoka, vasina shangu.Going to school without food and it is not good.

Welfare of children should be a collective effort at this not happening. It is something that we are trying to address and encourage in this song. The song is just advising men to be responsible others and look after their children.

KURARAMA INYASHA

This is more of a thanks giving song because we live for no cost. There are many bad things that happen in life;we are being trailed by misfortunes but ivo musiki vanotiringira vachitinzvengesa. We live by the grace of God,so this is a reminder everyone that we should thank God for the air that we breathe, for the food that we eat and lots of goodies that we enjoy in life. Hakusi kungwara kumuka uri mupenyu and no one buys life but it is God’s grace.

WANDIRANGARIDZA

In life we meet different people,we have our families and friends and a lot of things happen whenever you meet these groups of people. There is always something that we remain in our mind, that whenever you meet the person you go down memory lane.A friend can do something that reminds of you a certain incident or encounter. The essence of the song is that everyone is important in life because you always relive memories when you meet and associate with them. You are here with me doing this interview and if we are to spend time without seeing each other and meet again I will always relive this moment.Kutoti ah Mutore acharangarira gore riya,eh chegore riya.

MUNYARADZI

This is my best song on the album, yes my favourite.Whenever I was asked to give a snippet of the album,I would sing this one. This is a song that reminds people that whenever we face difficult situations, there us someone who can comfort us,there is someone with an immediate solution,The Almighty God. We are reading in the newspaper of people who commit suicide because of rough patches in life but that should not be the case.We should be able to face everything that comes our way and share our problems with friends and God Himself. We can communicate with God through prayer and I am simply encouraging that in this song Munyaradzi.

GUNGWA

Tiri kutaura zvevanhu ve Pull Him/Her Down. There are people who always plot others’ downfall, vanotogeza kumukira basa iroro.A lot has been said, relating the song to me but this is something that everyone can encounter. This is a message encouraging people not to concentrate on what other people go around saying about you.Don’t mind what they do trying to pull you down but focus on your goal because they are trying to destroy God’s fortess. It is impossible. In whatever you are doing in life, you are like a mountain or an ocean as implied in the song.

It is also an advice to those detractors that there are dangers of injuries and disappointments in this PHD sydrome. In fact, that person you are trying to destroy is helping a number of people with what he/she is doing and your PHD syndrome will affect a number of people or it backfires. We have people who start fights but sometimes not good boxers, ukaita munyama unobhogodheriwa. You will never take a good man down, you won’t succeed.

MUDE MUDE

It is a love song that, however, can be related to other experiences in life. The song encourages individuals to give their loved ones completelove. You can have a happy relationship when you love each other. There are people who look for jobs but vazonyozera variwana.Be passionate in everything that you are doing so that you enjoy it.Ifyou put extra effort you will always enjoy the fruits.
