Chris Mutsvangwa expelled from Zanu PF

ZIMBABWE National Liberation War Veterans’ Association chairman, Christopher Mutsvangwa and 13 former youth leaders have been expelled from Zanu PF on charges of indiscipline.

Addressing journalists in the capital yesterday after a day-long politburo meeting, Zanu PF secretary for administration, Ignatius Chombo, said the politburo had expelled a top party official, but declined to name him, saying the individual had not yet been informed.

“One member was dismissed because his behaviour had actually become worse after his suspension,” Chombo said.

But party insiders told NewsDay that the axe had fallen on the Norton MP, with the party accusing him of being loud-mouthed and defiant.

“The politburo also took time to discuss the disciplinary appeals and review committee. All the appeals against expulsion from the party by the 13 youths were unsuccessful,” Chombo said.

“This means the politburo has fully endorsed the decision of the appeals committee. This was due to the severity of their cases.”

Zanu PF has since 2014 suspended and fired several party members accusing them of working with former Vice-President Joice Mujuru in an alleged plot to oust President Robert Mugabe.
