Winky D's Manager speaks on 'Disappear' Video

DANCEHALL star Winky D’s camp says their latest video, Disappear was not an attempt to spite anyone but to have an outside appeal.

The video has received mixed reactions and Winky D’s camp says it was expected and there are positives to be drawn from the project. Winky D’s manager, Jonathan Banda, said they appreciate criticism as there will never be consensus regarding a video concept. He said they are happy with the debate around the video saying it will sustain the art.

”We appreciate all the comments, reviews and we are happy with the constructive criticism. This was not an attempt to spite anyone but an expression to art. We cannot all have a similar opinion.”

If you check on all the reviews or responses, one thing you cannot take away is the quality of the video. There is consensus there. What is differing the concept of the video. This is expected on videos, people will always have different concepts, “he said.

Banda said the video was a surprise package to all their followers, departing from the usual mini movie concept.”

We know what people were expecting. They were they all looking forward to a mini-movie, a party where they would see Exq or Bobo but we departed from that. Some were expecting the Musarova Big Man kind of video but we came with a different concept, “he said.

The video was launched last Friday on Botswana Television and Banda says it is an opportunity for other artistes to break into that market.

Banda said the project was a sacrifice.

“We wanted something that has a crosscut appeal, something that can appeal not only in Zimbabwe but across the region and we feel we have found the right formula. The quality is what we wanted and we now have it and the coming project will show it. The video was launched on Flava Dome on BTV and that alone shows the outside appeal it has.”

This should serve as an opportunity to other artistes to break into the regional market. This was a sacrifise,”he said. Banda assured their followers that their views are appreciated and have been noted for use in other projects.”

“To all the fans I say take time to appreciate the good aspects of the video before dismissing it. We appreciate all the critiscm. In art people will always have different preferences. You never agree on a video concept. Opinion can never be the same.”

“We appreciate the debate and we know the disappointment and it does not mean we have ignored them. When we compare with another project, they will have something to look forward to, “he said.
