Legendary African superstar Salif Keita of Mali is expected to be the main act at this year’s Harare International Festival of the Arts. Keita is billed to perform on the closing day together with local mbira princess Hope Masike.
It would be the second time for the internationally acclaimed musician to grace the Hifa main stage after another closing act at the festival in 2010. This year’s edition runs from April 28 to May 3 under the theme “Articulate”.
Addressing a Press conference in Harare yesterday, Hifa artistic director Manuel Bagooro said Salif Keita will return and share the stage with Masike, who has a strong international profile.“
In this year’s edition of Hifa we want to promote the spirit of collaborations because they bring together different voices and as a result a unique sound,“So Salif Keita is returning to Zimbabwe again and this time will be sharing the stage with Hope Masike on the last day of the festival,” he said.
“There is going to be diversity in terms of music as foreign artistes will be sharing the stage with local acts like Mokoomba and Tumbuka among others
