White Sangoma |
An eleven year old boy has graduated as a Sangoma. Now he reads bones and helps people ekasi – and he’s a mlungu! After training, Kyle Todd qualified as a traditional healer last October.
He told the SunTeam that some dreams he started having at the age of four led to him becoming a sangoma. A tall, old man visited him in his dreams and taught him about bones and medicine.
A young black sangoma also appeared in his dreams to teach him how to read the bones. Kyle said: “I was not scared of training as the old man told me in my dreams that everything would be fine – and I gladly accepted the calling.”
The young healer is now reading the bones and healing children. He has already had more than 60 patients in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria. His proud father, Michael Todd, said he met his son’s gobela, Solly Mathebula, in 2012.
Solly’s muthi helped to cure Michael from problems with his liver, kidney and lungs. Gobela Solly (36), who has practised as a sangoma for 20 years, said: “Kyle is doing very well as a sangoma.
He can see things before they happen. “He has helped many patients. One of his latest patients is a famous soccer player. “We’re going to have a big ceremony soon for Kyle in Musina, Limpopo, where he’ll open his own practice.”
Kyle has moved to Limpopo with his parents from Pretoria, but still visits Mamelodi over weekends for ceremonies.
