The first Zimbabwean Councilor in the UK

Nicolle Ndiweni (Right)
A Zimbabwean woman, Nicolle Ndiweni, who contested the recent British general election under the Labour Party, beat all odds against her organization that lost the poll to the Conservative Party to become the first black councillor of Hucknall, Ashfield District Council.

Ndiweni, who was almost an underdog in the elections, was born in Zimbabwe’s Karoi town, Mashonaland West province, where her father, Douglas Ndiweni, was once the boss of the local authority.

The councilor says she ventured into politics after she was driven by her desire to help less privileged members of society.

Ndiweni joined the Labour Party after realizing the party’s values and principles dovetailed with her Christian beliefs.

The single lady is proud of her father, mother, sister and brother and local people who gave her a lot of support in the run up to the general election widely won by the Conservative Party. VOA Studio 7
