Tourism minister, Walter Mzembi says the late Tongai Moyo’s shoes are too big for his son, Peter, to fill.

Speaking at the launch of Peter’s second album Mabasa aMwari, on Friday night, Mzembi said the late flamboyant Sungura maestro was a music icon whose shoes are too big for Peter to fit.

“I am happy that you are keeping your father’s legacy, but it is difficult for you to reach his standards. His shoes were size 14 and you still have a long way to go before you reach those standards,” he said.

Mzembi’s deeply felt sentiments were a smack on Peter’s face, particularly after his sentiments that he was ready to wrest the throne from Sungura king Alick Macheso, his late father’s greatest rival.

The album launch was attended by fellow musicians, including Stunner, Sulumani Chimbetu, Mudiwa, Kireni Zulu and Somandla Ndebele.

The album, which many tout as the yardstick that will define Peter’s prospects in the music industry, is likely to face stiff competition from Macheso’s project expected early October.

Peter said he was happy with the response the album was receiving from fans after it had sold 800 copies by Saturday.

“I’m very happy that the album is already being played in most places. We have already sold 800 copies and we hope to sell much more,” he said.

The album was auctioned on the day of the launch with most music promoters such as Partson Chimbodza and Biggie Chinoperekwei bidding to buy it for several hundreds of dollars.
