Sungura godfather Nicholas “Madzibaba” Zakaria says his decision to join Walter Magaya’s Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries was influenced by his trust and love for Nigerian televangelist TB Joshua’s sermons.TB Joshua, born Temitope Balogun, is Magaya’s spiritual father.
“When I learnt that Walter Magaya was opening a new Pentecostal church following his meeting with TB Joshua, I told myself that this was the right church for me, because I was a fanatic of TB Joshua through his sermons on television,” said Madzibaba.
“I firmly believe in the teachings of the Bible. I used to attend Johanne Masowe YeChishanu, but I left in 2008 because that sect did not use the Bible as the referral point. I then moved to Mugodhi apostolic sect.”
Madzibaba, who is now part of the PHD Ministries church choir — Yadah Voices — said he was now an active member of PHD Ministries.
“Madzibaba is just a trade name. I am now an active member of PHD Ministries and since joining the church, a lot of positive things have happened in my life,” he said.
Asked why he mixed secular music and church, Madzibaba said music was his only source of income.
“This is my job since 1975. It is the only way I can get money. Remember churches need money, so I have to get income for offerings, which are payments for the good works of the Lord,” he said.
Madzibaba, who performed in Mberengwa on Friday and yesterday, said he made sure that he attended at least two church services every week despite his tight schedule.
“I have to work and I have to attend church services. We normally have services on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, but I make sure that I attend at least two services a week despite my tight schedule,” he said.
