Prince Tapfuma aka. Oskid |
If you spend some time listening to local radio, you will hear the name Oskid popping up in a couple of tracks, or perhaps you will hear the words Kenako Music.
Today we introduce one of Zimbabwe’s hottest producers, Prince Tapfuma a.k.a. Oskid, who works for Kenako Media, the organisation behind Kenako Music.
This is the same outfit that produced some of the tracks on Killer T’s latest album ‘Ngoma Ndaimba’ which dominated the airwaves last year. They are also the people behind ExQ and Roki’s track and hot video, ‘Alleluyah’ and of worthy mention Winky D’s GAFA mixtape.
Today Zimbo Jam had a chat with Kenako Music producer, Oskid, the young lad who has taken the music industry by storm.
WHO IS OSKID, WHERE DID THE NAME COME FROM?
My name is Prince Tapfuma, I am 23 year old dude who comes from a family of four. I am married and blessed with one son.
I was given the name Oskid by my friends in school because I loved house music, especially beats by Oskido. I never thought it would stick, but here we are.
WHEN DID YOU START STUDYING MUSIC?
I started music when I was in primary school. I used to play marimba and from then on I began to develop my skill and learnt to play more instruments.
HOW DID YOU START PRODUCING?
Well I started as a musician and with time I became bored because none of the producers where making beats that I liked. So I decided to start producing my own music and the rest is history.
WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM OTHER PRODUCERS?
People say I do my job in a different way. I am not sure why, maybe it’s because I use live instruments. I play keyboard, drums, guitar, mbira, marimba, and a bit of the saxophone.
WHO ARE SOME OF THE ARTISTS AND PROJECTS YOU HAVE WORKED WITH TO DATE?
I have worked with Winky D,Seh Calaz, Killer T, Terminator, Freeman, Guspy Warrior , ExQ, Roki and Celsius amongst many others.
I have produced a conscious riddim called ‘Partial riddim’ and it’s doing well both on radio and the streets.
HAVE YOU PRODUCED YOUR OWN MUSIC?
Yes, I have a house group called ‘Zimboys’. I am the one who did the track ‘Tipeiwo hwahwa’. I worked in Botswana with Dr. Tawanda, MC Maswe, Vee and Slizer.
