Gringo writer says he is in trouble with debts incurred on Gringo Production

Gringo and Enock
Enock Chihombori says he is in big trouble over debts he cannot clear from the production of Gringo The Troublemaker.

The film was widely pirated, leaving Chihombori with little money. “I cannot reveal the figures to the public, but I am in trouble over the outstanding debts. I am hurt and I have never felt such pain,” he said.

He is said to owe $50 000.

Chihombori borrowed the money to produce the film hoping to cover the debts with proceeds from the production, but it was extensively pirated.

This was despite his attempt to dodge piracy by having the film screened in cinemas first before it went on DVD, but it fell into the pirates’ hands, resulting in huge losses.

Speaking to NewsDay from his Botswana base, Chihombori confirmed he was in trouble with creditors, who had been pursuing him over the last three years.

He said he was struggling to raise enough money to settle the debt and was bitter at the extensive piracy that had plagued the film.

“Nothing has ever been settled on Gringo Troublemaker. If anything, that production just brought me trouble. There are people who do not respect other people’s efforts. No wonder I named it Troublemaker,” Chihombori
said.
