RUSAPE: A police officer forced himself on his 16-year-old step daughter, boasting that he had bought her the underwear she was wearing on the day in question, court heard Thursday.
The girl is now pregnant.
Marevasei Marume, 38, stationed at Mayo Camp in Chiendambuya, Makoni appeared before Rusape magistrate Livingstone Chipadza.
Marume denied the charges, saying the allegations were flimsy and meant to tarnish his image.
“Your Worship I deny the charges. The juvenile hates me because I am not her biological father. She is framing me so that she tarnishes my reputation in society,” said Marume.
But the juvenile insisted that she was raped by her stepfather. She said Marume boasted that he was the one who had bought the panties which she was wearing on the day in question. She said he later boasted that she was pregnant by him.
Marume was remanded in custody to March 3 for continuation of trial.
Prosecutor, Tirivanhu Mutyasira, told the court that on an unknown date, Marume, at around 19 00hrs, and his wife left home to attend a funeral at a nearby village.
Around midnight, Marume returned to his homestead and entered into the dining room where the teen was asleep with other three minors.
He then allegedly sneaked into the teen’s blankets pretending he wanted to cover the minors with some more blankets.
Marume reportedly fon_dled the teen’s breasts several times. The court was told that Marume boasted that he had the right to do so because he had bought some panties for the girl.
He threatened the minor with unspecified action if she reported the matter before raping her three times.
The minor spilled the beans after a neighbour noticed that the teen was pregnant and quizzed her. The matter was then reported to police leading to Marume`s arrest.
A medical report indicated that the teen was raped and a scan also revealed that she was four months pregnant.
