Former missionary sentenced to 40 years in prison for sexual child abuse in Kenyan orphanage


A federal judge in Oklahoma has sentenced A former missionary, 21 year old Matthew Lane Durham has been convicted of sexually abusing children at an orphanage in Kenya and sentenced to 40 years in jail in an Oklahoma court.

Prosecutors accused Durham of targeting and molesting the orphans while he volunteered at the Upendo Children's Orphanage Home in Nairobi, Kenya between April 2014 and June 2014.

Durham didn't show any emotion when he was sentenced on Monday morning, March 7th. He was sentenced on each of four counts of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in foreign places.

U.S. District Judge David L. Russell called the crimes heinous. In addition to the 40 year prison term, Durham has also been ordered to pay restitution of $15,863 by the judge.

A jury had found him guilty and convicted him in June on seven counts of abuse, but the judge acquitted Durham of three of the counts in January 2016.
