Veteran radio personality Tich Mataz has spread his wings and ventured into the fashion industry with the launch of a boutique – Mataz Collection.
Catering for both men and women, Mataz Collection boutique opened doors in Harare on Monday.
Known mostly for his on air talent, Tich Mataz, real name Tichaona Matambanadzo, has been consistent with dressing as he has, over the years, been spotting trendy suits. Compliments of his dressing inspired Mataz to set up the boutique as he wanted people to have access to the clothes he wears.
“There`s an influx of colourful shirts that don`t look nice and don`t have good quality. Some men don`t want to look like the rest so I opened this shop to cater for people like me who want nice exclusive clothes,” Mataz said.
Situated in the Harare CBD, Mataz`s shop offers designer suits, blazers, trousers, shoes and shirts for both sexes.
For now, Mataz imports the clothes from Italy, Turkey and Hong Kong with plans to launch his clothing line as well underway.
“I’ll be bringing two tailors, one from Turkey and another from Hong Kong at the end of this month. With their assistance, we want to design tailor made shirts and suits especially made for Zimbabweans.”
The range will be named after his boutique – Mataz Colletion.
Last Thursday during the live broadcast of the Zimbabwe Music Awards, Mataz took the opportunity to advertise the imminent opening of his shop by wearing some of his collections. He wore four different outfits on the night which many seemed to admire.
And after the awards ceremony, Mataz used the feedback to boost his collection in the boutique.
Other public figures who have set up clothing shops include dance queen Sandra Ndebele-Sibindi, former Miss Zimbabwe Lorraine Maphala-Phiri who will soon be running a hair salon, former Big Brother Housemate Pokello Nare who went on to launch her own shoe range – Pokello Pink Bottoms and Facebook commentator Nomathemba Primrose Ndebele. Superstar Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi has a shoe range – Haikobo.
