Former Education minister Aeneas Chigwedere has filed a notice of taxation against his son Mangwiza, claiming $6 500 in legal costs.Chigwedere claims he incurred the costs during a legal battle against his son in a witchcraft case.
The former Mashonaland East governor was taken to court several times by his son, who accused him of possessing goblins that tormented their family.
However, the courts dismissed the case on jurisdictional grounds, saying the matter was spiritual rather than civil, despite several attempts by Mangwiza to have his father charged.
Recently, Mangwiza took 22 members of the Chigwedere clan to court in a bid to nail his father at Marondera Civil Court, but presiding magistrate, Josephine Sande dismissed the case.
According to a taxation notice filed at Marondera Civil and Customary Law Court on June 13, 2016, Chigwedere, through his lawyers, Tendai Masawi of Masawi and Partners, wants Mangwiza to pay $6 498 for costs incurred during the court processes.
“Please take notice the attached bill of costs shall be taxed on June 22, 2016 at 8am or so soon thereafter as the bill may be taxed,” the notice read.
Mangwiza said he wanted the court to grant Zimbabwe National Traditional Healers’ Association permission to remove the goblins, but when he lost in court, he appealed to the High Court, where the matter is yet to be heard.
