Sipho Moyo |
Zimbabwean economist Sipho Moyo has been appointed as director of Cabinet and chief of staff in the Office of the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
She starts the new job on November 1, the bank said in statement yesterday.
AfDB president Akinunwi Adesina said Moyo brings extensive experience in development and solid understanding of multilateral financial institutions.
“I am delighted that Moyo will be joining us. She brings extensive experience in development and solid understanding of multilateral financial institutions.
Her extensive managerial experience, deep understanding of critical development issues in Africa, passion for people-oriented development, advocacy and ability to achieve results, will add great value to the African Development Bank and its community,” he said.
Moyo graduated with a Masters in Development Economics in 1989 and PhD in Financial Economics in 1994, both from Howard University, Washington DC. Adesina said Moyo boasts an illustrious career in international development spanning over 22 years.
Until her appointment, Moyo worked as the executive director of the ONE Campaign, an international civil society organisation, where she distinguished herself by significantly growing the organisation and mobilising strong advocacy and support behind major development issues in Africa.
Prior to joining the ONE Campaign, Moyo worked for AfDB for 12 years in various capacities. She was resident representative and country manager for Nigeria and Tanzania country offices, principal country economist and senior economist.
Adesina started his first term as president of the bank on September 1. He won the presidency with the backing of Sadc after its candidate Thomas Zondo Sakala was eliminated in earlier rounds. A former AfDB vice-president, Sakala is now the CEO of the Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe. Newsday
