HARARE – Zimdancehall’s first family – Soul Musaka and Lynet Musenyi – popularly known as Soul Jah Love and Bounty Lisa in music circles are one of celebrity couples whose love has kept them going despite facing challenges.

The lovebirds who front the Conquering Family music stable say they met when things were tough, especially for Soul Jah Love who did not have anything to call his own except his music that he believes kept him going.

Bounty Lisa said she met Soul Jah Love through music and he has proved to be everything she has ever wanted in a man.

Soul Jah Love said they have been happily assisting each other at home and at work over the years. But the musician could not say much because he is in pain after sustaining burns on his abdomen when he tried to fix his car last week.

“We met in 2013 through music and from the day I met him I knew he was the man for me. He started visiting me at my parents’ place in Kuwadzana and the relationship got stronger and stronger,” Bounty Lisa recalls.

“He used to talk to my dad when he visited me and he was so full of respect for my parents to an extent that they started to like him.

“When I decided to move in with him they were not even disappointed because they knew he was the right man for me,” she said.

The two got engaged in April 2014 at a massive engagement party which saw a number of Zimdancehall artistes performing at a show held at the Harare Gardens.

It was at the engagement party that Soul Jah Love announced that he was going to pay the bride price for the love of his life and also promised that a white wedding was to follow.

“It is true that Soul announced that he was going to pay the bride price for me and he surely fulfilled his words and paid the lobola sometime last year. On the issue of the wedding, we are on it and this year we will definitely tie the knot,” said Bounty Lisa.

Just like any other couple or marriage, life has not been a bed of roses for the two young celebrity couple who sometime last year were reported to have separated due to some misunderstandings.

According to Bounty Lisa, it was just a minor issue that was blown out of proportion by the media.

“You know, just like anyone else in any marriage set up, people have their ups and downs but it does not mean that people are divorcing.

“I just feel that the issue was over-hyped but anyway we do not have any problem with that because we have learnt that being popular you must take every situation as it comes whether bad or good. As you can see now we are happily married and everything is well for me and my man,” he said.

Soul Jah Love has had problems with his health and Bounty said she fell in love with him when she knew he was diabetic and taking care of him has never been an issue.

“When I met Soul, I knew he was diabetic and would often inject himself with medication. I loved him like that and to me taking care of him is just a normal thing. For instance, if he wants to eat eight times a day I just make sure his food is ready when he wants it.

“I just want to thank my parents who have been so supportive to me and Soul since my dad had knowledge of the diabetic condition and how to take care of a diabetes patient. He helped me on how to take care of Soul and all has been well,” she said.

However Bounty Lisa highlighted that as someone who has been through a lot, including losing his mother when he was only three years old, his twin brother John when he was 15 and his father when he was 17 and also being a diabetic, Soul Jah Love is a bitter man and can easily be irritated. She always tries to make sure he is happy always.

If it was not for the bogus land barons that have flourished in the capital, the young couple could have been landlords by now but their house was one of the illegal structures that were destroyed by the City Council late last year.

“2015 was a good year for us. We managed to open a canteen that I am running in Mbare and Soul opened a small shop in town that sells laptops, cell phones and other gadgets, we also managed to build a house in High Glen but unfortunately it was destroyed by the City Council when they were destroying illegal structures,” she said.

The couple is set to launch their albums this month on a day to be announced. “We are going to have a double album launch as Soul will be launching his album and I will be also launching my first album and for the first time.”

“I have two songs that I have written for my man on the album which are ‘Ndiwe Unondiitira’ and ‘Muridzi Wemoyo’,” she said.

Having started as “chigunduru”, a term used to describe adults who sleep in the streets without a fixed abode, Soul Jah Love is now renting a three-bedroom house in the low density suburb of Msasa Park together with his wife and one of his band members.

They do not have a child yet. The Herald
