Peter Moyo launches Charity Trust

Peter Moyo
Utakataka Express front man Peter Moyo has lived up to his late father's dream by setting up a Charity Trust that will see him giving back to the community through various activities Zimrealnews has learnt.

The fast rising sungura star who was last year appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for The Avon Restaurant, a local upmarket food and entertainment joint said there was more to life than playing music and self-enrichment.

Before his passing on, the legendary Tongai Moyo who is Peter's father had taken to charity and was a volunteer with the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society, a local humanitarian organisation.

Tongai was then quoted as saying he had seen it all musically but still felt he needed to give back to the community that gave him fame and status. "I want people to remember me for reaching out to the less privileged and I am happy to be volunteering with the Red Cross," Tongai said.

True to his word, Tongai worked closely with the Midlands Provincial structures of the Red Cross and would often be seen donning a white Red Cross cap and field jacket. Even when in Harare he would continue volunteering with the national office. And like they say that the apple doesn't fall very far from the tree, Tongai's son Peter has followed in his father's footsteps and doing so in a big way.
In an exclsuive interview with Zimrealnews, Peter said charity workwas going to one of their major focus areas moving into the future.

"When we do music, it's work for us but I am happy to say beyond entertaining music lovers we have seen it fit to set up a Trust that will see us ploughing back to the community.

Almost every day you see calls for support in the local newspapers. It's either a cancer patient or an orphan looking for educational support. Such sad realities call for action and we believe the Trust will help us reach out to the disadvantaged in our own small way", Peter Said.

The Dewa Music Trust will see Peter Moyo and his Utakataka Express holding Charity Shows around Zimbabwe with proceeds going to Charity. The group will identify various charities to benefit from the fundraisers and the first of such shows will be held this February in Harare. Zimrealnews
