Government moves forward Health Workers salaries pay date from July 14 to Friday 8th

DOCTORS and nurses will get their salaries tomorrow instead of July 14 as earlier announced, after President Mugabe intervened in the salary standoff between civil servants and the Government.

Acting Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Supa Mandiwanzira yesterday said President Mugabe made the intervention during Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting.

Minister Mandiwanzira said President Mugabe ordered responsible ministers to work flat out to ensure that critical departments such as the health sector receive their salaries in the shortest period possible.

“I’m happy to announce that the health sector’s salary pay dates have been brought forward from 14 July to Friday. This follows an intervention by President Robert Mugabe who directed in Cabinet yesterday (Tuesday) that no stone should be left unturned in sourcing salaries for critical sectors especially the health sector,” he said.

Minister Mandiwanzira praised his fellow ministers for heeding the President’s call by promptly putting together salaries for the health sector.

“We want to thank the acting Minister of Finance Cde Walter Chidhakwa who facilitated and successfully put together the money for the payment of health personnel. We also want to thank the Minister of Health Dr David Parirenyatwa who has been fighting very hard to ensure that the salaries of health personnel are prioritised,” he said.

Minister Mandiwanzira lauded some of the health personnel who did not join the civil servants strike.

“We’re very grateful for the nurses and doctors across the country who’ve remained committed to the national duty and their professional ethic and have continued to offer services to Zimbabweans. They are nationalists of the highest order. With thank them and hope that this relief will make life bearable for them,” he said.

“We are therefore encouraging all nurses and doctors to go to work tomorrow (today). They all should turn up for work tomorrow because their money will be in their accounts on Friday.”

Minister Mandiwanzira said the Government was working towards bringing forward pay dates for other civil servants but could not be drawn into giving details of the new schedule.

Teachers are expected to receive their salaries today while the rest of the civil servants were expected to receive their salaries on July 14.
