Transgender man reveals shock at learning he was 21 weeks pregnant half way through his sex change

A transgender man is revealing how shocked he was to learn that he was pregnant almost a decade after he began to transition.

Kayden Coleman, 29, was experiencing some back pain one day and asked his then-boyfriend Elijah to give him a massage. 'It felt like there was a pillow under my stomach but there was no pillow,' said Kayden of the moment he laid on his stomach.

He then joked that they should go get a pregnancy test - and it came back positive. Kayden told Mirror Online that at the time he became pregnant he had gone off his hormones because he was preparing to undergo a mastectomy and his doctors had told him to take a break.

'To have a mastectomy you have to be off hormones for six weeks,' explained Kayden. A doctor confirmed the news, and he and Elijah did everything they could to prepare themselves for the new arrival, from getting their apartment ready to taking the plunge and getting married.

Kayden was also required to come out to those in his life who did not know he was transgender - including Elijah's family. 'It was such a personal thing that I felt if Kayden wanted them to know he should tell them himself,' said Elijah.

'But when we found out Kayden was pregnant we knew we had to tell them. How could we explain the baby when she popped up after a couple of months?' Shortly after, Kayden and Elijah welcomed their daughter Azaelia into the world. 

'Even when I first held her it hadn’t sunk in that she was mine, so I didn’t really feel much. But I knew things would never be the same again. I was so happy to finally see her face,' said Kayden. Things were a little tough after that, with Kayden suffering post-natal depression and Elijah's family saying some 'unkind comments.' 

But the couple is now better than ever raising their daughter, who is almost 2-years-old.  Kayden documents their family life on a YouTube channel, and told Buzzfeed; 'We are more than capable of loving our children just as much and just as efficiently as any other parent. 

'Our children will not be any more confused or bullied about my being trans than any other kid is about something like having a single parent.'
