Blessing Shumba launches fifth album

Award-winning gospel artiste Blessing Shumba launched his fifth and latest album titled Calvary at Mutare’s Golden Peacock Hotel last Friday.

The album was unveiled at a colourful event officiated by Manicaland Provincial Affairs minister Mandi Chimene. Shumba believes his 12-track album is laden with potential hits.

“I strongly believe in the project and I am prepared to extensively promote it so that it reaches all the corners of the country and transform people’s lives,” he said.

Tracks making the Olin Anderson-produced album are Kuparidza Jesu, Mukova Wazaruka (Open Doors), ZvaMwari (Devoted to God), Mwari Munodeiko, Zvapera (Simba Remuchinjikwa), Matatenda, Step by Step, Chikomborero, Anoziva Chakanaka, Move Mountains (Nokutenda), Eli Hosanna (Save Us) and RaJesu Idzvene.

The album launch, broadcast live by Mutare-based private radio station Diamond FM was graced by several Manicaland-based artistes and corporates including gospel artiste Agatha Murudzwa and Gladius Legal Aid Community, which has made Shumba their brand ambassador.

Gladius Legal Aid Community spokesperson George Chirombedze described the Shongwe singer as a worthy ambassador.

“We are very proud to be associated with Shumba’s musical brand. He has put the province on the musical map in the country and because of this, we are ready to continue sponsoring his activities to enable his talent to be fully utilised. Since we have chosen him as our brand ambassador, we are going to sponsor his forthcoming DVD project.”

Murudzwa performed some of her popular songs Press On and Mafashamo much to the delight of the fully-packed house.

Shumba, who walked away with $1200 after claiming top position on the 2015 Coca-Cola Radio Zimbabwe Top 50, was born in 1979 in Takavarasha in Buhera. He later moved to Odzi in 1981 after his father acquired a plot there.

He did his primary education at Chiwere School and his Ordinary Level at Mabvudzi High School in Nyazura. Shumba ventured into music in the late 1990s. He is known for albums including Ishe Wazvose in 2008 which carries the hit song Kurwa Kwakanaka;Ndimwari (2011); Shongwe (2012) and NdiJesu released in 2014 which also carries another award-winning song Chimwe nechimwe.
