Tocky Vibes shares UK concert proceeds with orphans

DANCEHALL singer Tocky Vibes on Saturday shared part of the proceeds from his recent United Kingdom show with the needy, donating an assortment of groceries to underprivileged children under Apostolic Church of Pentecostal (ACOP) and Harare Children’s Home respectively.

The Mhai hitmaker donated groceries such as rice, mealie-meal, sugar, cooking oil and flour to the two institutions.

ACOP, led by Henry Zihove, feeds about 200 vulnerable children, while foster-parenting others in Rugare, with the help of six foster parents.

Tocky Vibes told NewsDay that giving to the needy was a way of thanking God for his breakthrough in music.

“I had a good show in the United Kingdom recently, which I believe was blessed by the Almighty. So I decided to share what I got there with my underprivileged brothers and sisters at ACOP in Rugare and Harare Children’s Home,” he said.

During the donation ceremony, the musician interacted with the children and later visited the institutions’ poultry and horticulture projects, whose proceeds were meant to bankroll their operations.

This is not the first time Tocky Vibes has reached out to underprivileged children, as he also shared his birthday celebrations with them last year.

Zihove said the donation by Tocky Vibes — born Obey Makamure — was a timely boost for the children and would go a long way in helping the church to continue fulfilling its core mandate of helping underprivileged children.

“We acknowledge what our son (Tocky Vibes) has done for us today (Saturday), Obey grew up here in Rugare and he is now ploughing back to his community, as someone who has experienced some of the challenges people face in this area,” he said.

“As ACOP, we are trying to bridge the gap of vulnerability to this new generation in Rugare suburb through various transformation projects that has also seen Tocky Vibes coming on board with his art of singing that has helped to change the mind-set of our children through art.”

Zihove appealed to the government for more land to carry out more projects.
