Zimsec withholds November 2015 A-level results

THE Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) has withheld some results for November 2015 Advanced Level examinations for several schools amid suspicion that candidates might have cheated, Sunday News can reveal.

Zimsec raised queries on Chemistry, Literature in English and Divinity for several schools.

The move evoked panic among hundreds of students who failed to get their results last week. Among some of the schools whose results were withheld are Silveira, St Antony and Pamushana High Schools all in Masvingo Province.

LEADER of Believers Loveworld Incorporated, which is popularly known as Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has declared that Zimbabwe is a special country and a miracle, adding that the nation must refuse to be poor.

The Nigerian minister released the prophetic words during the all night vigil that was held on January 22 in South Africa's 90 000 seater FNB stadium where thousands of people congregated.

"Zimbabwe, you are a miracle! You are a land locked country, but you are not God locked. God has heard your prayers, refuse to be poor. God said, you are a miracle. It's your time!" declared Pastor Chris.

Alick Macheso has picked Tryson Chimbetu as the heir apparent to the Dendera genre in a move that is likely to invite a backlash from musicians Sulumani, Allan and Douglas Chimbetu.

Macheso described Tryson as “svikiro reDendera” (Dendera master), while urging the family to unite. “Tryson is very talented and that is where the real Dendera is. He has maintained the Dendera flair,” said Macheso.

There is outrage in Enugu State in Nigeria following the discovery on Monday evening of shocking images of dead bodies buried in shallow graves along the Enugu Port-Harcourt Express Road.

According to a report credited to Dailypost, there was chaos and tears yesterday evening at Ugwuaji, along Enugu Port-Harcourt Express road, when human parts and almost fresh dead bodies were discovered in an uncompleted building. See pics after the break

Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic has released a statement to ManUtd.com announcing his retirement from football.

The former Reds captain, who recently left Inter Milan, has decided to call time on his career at the age of 34.

He played for United for eight years from January 2006 to May 2014, helping the club to win five Premier League titles, three League Cups, the Champions League and the Club World Cup.

Eric Rosen laid to rest

Motor Action Football Club Founder Eric Rosen was laid to rest at Greendale Cemetery yesterday. A church service to honour the life of Rosen was held at Nazareth House Catholic Church on Friday morning.

Friends, relatives, football fans, players, current and former administrators then proceeded to Motor Action Sports Club for a ceremony to honour the life of Rosen.

Those that took to the podium spoke highly about Rosen who will forever be remembered for his contribution to Zimbabwean sport. From Motor Action Sports Club, Rosen’s body was then ferried to Greendale Cemetery, his final resting place.

New details following David Bowie's death have been revealed. The late rock icon's will, which was filed in court on Friday in Manhattan, allegedly revealed that Bowie has left nearly half of his $100 million estate to his wife Iman, along with the couple's home on Lafayette Street in Manhattan, according to the New York Post's Page Six, who obtained the documents.

Their daughter, Alexandria, gets his Ulster County home in upstate New York, and will split the remaining of Bowie's fortune with his son from a previous relationship, Duncan Jones.

The number of youths between 13 and 15 years who are smoking is almost similar to that of adults who also smoke, a recent survey on the prevalence of tobacco use in youths has shown.

Presenting results of the study titled the “Global Youths Tobacco Survey” (GYTS) in Harare on Wednesday, Dr Shungu Munyati, a researcher with the Biomedical Research and Training Institute (BRTI), said 20 percent of youths between 13 and 15 years were using tobacco products.

The prevalence rate of tobacco use in the age group is almost similar to that of smoking adults who constitute 22 percent, according to the recent Zimbabwe Demographic Health Survey.

Dr Munyati said youths in the same age group who actually smoked cigarettes constituted 16,2 percent.

A pupil in Masvingo has smashed the academic record in Masvingo after getting 30 points in the Cambridge A Level exams.

Emmanuel Zhou (18) a science student at Riverton Academy in Masvingo Rural sat for six subjects (Cambridge) in November 2015.

Emmanuel got an A in Mathematics (scoring 97%); Physics A (93%); Chemistry A (94%); Accounting A (95%); Economics A (92%) and Further Mathematics A (83%). He wants to do Actuarial Science or Petroleum Engineering at university.

“The achievement is not for me as an individual but for the entire school. I’m proud of my school and I know everyone is proud of me. I want to thank God for his guidance,” Emmanuel told The Mirror.

A 43-YEAR-OLD Harare man appeared in court yesterday facing two counts of indecently assaulting his 12-year-old stepdaughter and offering a 10-cent bond coin to buy her silence.

Presiding magistrate Tendai Mahwe heard that the suspect, who cannot be named to protect the victim’s identity, allegedly had anal sex with the minor on two occasions sometime in December last year.

Mahwe remanded him in custody to February 25 this year for trial at the regional court.

Government has stopped allocating land to developers and housing co-operatives with immediate effect, while all servicing and housing development on State land will be done by the Urban Development Corporation.

This follows instances in which millions of dollars have been lost to bogus land developers while many deals have gone sour after it turned out that they were illegal.

Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Deputy Minister Christopher Chingosho announced on Tuesday that Government would also no longer brook situations where unserviced stands are sold to unsuspecting members of the public.

Even their father, (name supplied), who passionately urged the news crew to expose his sons’ shenanigans, confirmed that his sons were into Satanism saying their behaviour troubled him.

Harare residents must brace for a dry weekend as the city shuts down its main water treatment plant at Morton Jaffray today to allow the installation of valves at the trunk mains to the central business district and Lochnivar and repair leaks at the treatment plant and mains.

The city’s acting corporate communications manager Mr Michael Chideme said the city was also carrying out plant maintenance and repairing leakages on the transmission mains.

There will be free education for all pupils in students schools who will register for science subjects when they enrol for Advanced level this year, with Government paying for their full school and boarding fees.

The move is meant to promote the learning of science technology, engineering and mathematics which are now known by the abbreviation STEM and are being promoted through the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development.

The ministry has since launched a multimedia outreach programme to encourage pupils who took their O-Level examinations in 2015 and who in their results got a Grade of at least a “C” in Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry to take a combination of the STEM subjects at A-Level this year.

A 32-YEAR-OLD man from Bulawayo has been arrested for allegedly raping his 53-year-old mother.

The man, from Cowdray Park suburb, appeared before Magistrate Abednico Ndebele charged with raping his biological mother.

The incident happend on January 18 at the mother’s house in Nkulumane suburb.

The rape suspect, a mechanic who cannot be named to protect the identity of his mother, was not asked to plead but told the court that his mother was framing him.

“I didn’t do it your worship. I don’t know why she is saying I raped her. When she is fighting with my father, she gets me involved in their issues for no reason at all,” he said before he was remanded in custody to February 10.

Crystal Palace football club of England signed Togolese footballer Emmanuel Adebayor on a free transfer yesterday Jan. 26th. The former Real Madrid, Man City, Arsenal and Tottenham striker had been a free agent ever since he and Tottenham parted ways last year.
